Step 1: Find the exact wine or whiskey barrel
First, you have to find perfect barrel for your coffee table project. You could find it at secondhand online stores such as e-Bay or Amazon. Go to local whsikey or wine supplier is another option you could do. You just need half barrel so you need to cut one full barrel into two part.
Step 2: Clean out the barrel
Before the project starts, you need to clean your barrel, both inside and outside. Wash the barrel with clean water and brush it if necessary. Next, you could remove the barrel’s metal bands. Do it with strong pry bar. Remove the bails carefully then take the metal bands off.
Step 3: Sand it!
The barrel’s surface could feels too rough to touch. Definitely, you need to sand it with good sand paper. Do it repeatly until the surface feels extra smooth.
Step 4: Stain it!
You could use some brushes to stain your barrel with the “Special Walnut” from Minwax. Let it dry for a while before moving to the next steps.
